Domestically Challenged: Student Cooking Show Offers Cooking Tips

When new Loyola students discover they are the proud owners of a full kitchen, they may have no idea how to use it.

Enter “Domestically Challenged,” a cooking show hosted by Katie Fitzpatrick, ’13, broadcast by GreyComm Studios, Loyola’s campus TV station.

“A lot of people haven’t been taught how to cook or use the kitchen at all,” said Fitzpatrick, a communication major with a specialization in public relations who is starting her second year as GreyComm president. “Our aim is to show people it’s not scary. It’s easier than you think.”

Whether she’s demonstrating how to cook peanut butter cookies or meatball subs, she keeps the recipes straightforward and simple. Sometimes she forgets to bring an ingredient to the filming or gets the giggles.

“It’s a good thing we have editing,” said the Jackson, N.J., resident, who enjoys working with the crew, including co-producer Dennis Cornwall, training coordinator in the public safety department. “They’re good friends, and it’s kind of like I’m talking to them.”
